8 Tips to Take Your Business from Part-Time to Full-Time

8 Tips to Take Your Business from Part-Time to Full-Time

People often ask me how I made the jump from working as an employee to starting my own full-time business. Welp, lemme give you the quickie version and share my story!

From the second I got my first job at Steak'N'Shake at the age of 16, (yeah I totally rocked that red bow tie and uniform!) I KNEW I wanted to run my own business some day. I simply hated with a fiery passion some one else creating my work schedule and telling me what to do and how to do it. So from very early on, the desire to own my own business was planted. It was just a matter of figuring out WHAT.

6 Steps to Speed up Your Blog's Workflow

6 Steps to Speed up Your Blog's Workflow

If there's one thing I've learned about blogging, it's that it can be sooooo time consuming!!! I started my first blog back in 2006 and I fell in love with it, so I've been blogging ever since!

BUT. To do it well, (especially if you are using your blog for business), it takes up a lot of time. Time that a lot of us busy folk might feel that we don't have very much of! However, if you blog for business, then it's important to do it regularly. And if you're doing it regularly, then it's important to save as much time as possible! Right? So today, I'm taking you through six steps to speed up your blog's workflow so that it will run like a well-oiled machine!

How to Use Your Voice to Make Your Blog Stand Out

How to Use Your Voice to Make Your Blog Stand Out

You know what I think is super important in helping to set you apart from the rest?

Your voice.

I don't mean the way you sound when you talk, but the way you infuse your personality into your writing! I mean think about it, there's already a bazillion other blogs out there. There are already people who like what you like and do what you do, but no one else IS you. Some one can rip off your brand (there will always be copycats when you totally rock something!) but they can never rip off YOU because well ... they AREN'T you.

If there's one thing I hate doing, it's wasting time!

Well, most of the time anyway, hehe.

When I first started my wedding photography business it took me quite awhile to get the hang of things. My workflow was slow and clunky and I found myself frustrated with how long it would take me to get certain things done. I remember one time I needed to have a client's wedding photo file names numbered from zero to 600. I MANUALLY opened and renamed every single photo, (all SIX HUNDRED of them!!!) I'm pretty sure it took me almost 2 hours. Little did I know there was an option in Photoshop Bridge that would allow me to rename all my photos in numerical order in about TWO SECONDS.

How to Choose the Right Business Idea

How to Choose the Right Business Idea

So you've come up with several great possible ideas to start a business, eh? Awesome! (If you haven't, check out this post on how to brainstorm a business idea!)

So now you might be wondering, which idea do I choose? Which one will make me money?

Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that a business idea will make money, so make sure that the potential business you are wanting to start is something that you love! Never go into business just to make money.

Sounds a bit counterintuitive, right? But if you don't love what you're starting and you are purely trying to just make money, it's going to be exhausting and miserable. Starting a business is a LOT of work. So make sure that you love it. Plus, people can tell when you're being fake and don't love what you're doing, and you will inevitably turn people off and not attract the kind of customers that you want. So one more time, all together now:

Man, almost nothing gets me more excited than brainstorming new business ideas or helping some one else to start their own business!

Well, except maybe chocolate.

Or a fancy coffee drink!

Or the idea of acting like a cat in public and watching everyone's super confused reactions! Like ... I really want to sit on my haunches outside a coffee shop or restaurant window while just meowing and gazing in longingly. Can you picture it?
